DEFOE'S WORLD CUP DREAMS IN THE BALANCE
JERMAIN DEFOE’S World Cup dreams are in the balance after he became the latest England star to be struck down by injury.
Defoe tore his hamstring in training on Thursday and boss Harry Redknapp says the 27-year-old could be out for three weeks – but admits it could be longer. [> Spurs’ England winger Aaron Lennon is still suffering from a groin problem caused on club duty back in December, Redknapp is understandably keen not to set an exact return date for Defoe. [>

That is sure to leave England manager Fabio Capello sweating on the fi tness of another key member of his squad, with just two-and-a-half months until the World Cup. [>
[>
“Hopefully it could be three weeks, but I don’t know – you never know with hamstrings and those injuries, do you?” [>
[>
Redknapp said. “It’s like with Lennon. I could sit here and say, ‘Well, he’s going to be back in 3-4 weeks’. I could have said that 14 weeks ago. It’s a massive loss for us.’’ [>

With David Beckham out of World Cup contention and Ashley Cole struggling to make the plane, Capello will be keeping his fi ngers crossed no more of his key players are struck down before June. [>
