REVIEWS: TRIANGLE, TOY STORY AND THE MENTALIST
Best of the Rest
Triangle (15) (Icon)[>

Melissa George’s yacht cruise turns nightmarish when they are first becalmed and the yacht then turns turtle after being struck by a monstrous electrical storm. But luckily the group is saved when they board a liner that mysteriously appears.[>
[>
Their initial relief is short-lived. First they find the clocks have stopped and the vessel seems to be deserted, then they learn they are not alone and one by one they are hunted down by a masked murderer.[>
[>
Fans of fear should have an enjoyably nerve-stretching time with this suitably scary riff on the frequently filmed “crazy-killer-on-the-loose-with-nowhere to run” show directed with solid rising suspense and shocks by Brit Christopher Smith.[>

Toy Story (PG)/Toy Story 2 (PG) (Walt Disney)[>

Disney’s entertaining and hugely successful series about the amazing animated adventures of a mixed bunch of talking toys bursts into 3D later this year with Toy Story 3. But why not enjoy the delights of the first two “flat” films again? The first fun film Toy Story enjoyably establishes the group of toys who came to life when their owner was away, and then began talking up a storm, with Tom Hanks, better heard than seen, speaking up as the adventurous mob’s leader.[>
[>
Toy Story 2 continues the little heroes’ extraordinary exploits when spaceman Buzz Lightyear (voiced by Tim Allen) and his toy pals go to the rescue of Woody the Cowboy from a sinister toy collector and a terrific time is had by all.[>

The Mentalist: Season 1 (Warner Home Video 26.99)[>
[>
Television has given us just every kind of detective, from sleuths in wheelchairs, elderly English spinsters to even a deaf FBI agent. This absorbing, offbeat crime series features a detective who’s different.[>
[>
Australian Simon Baker (who starred in the TV series The Guardian and in the hit comedy The Devil Wears Prada) is perfectly cast as Patrick Jane, the clever “mentalist” of the title who now works for the California Bureau of Investigation.[>
[>
He solves all kinds of crime cases with skills of observation, often freaking out superior Robin Tunney with his offbeat methods. He makes each ingenious episode really enjoyable.[>

VERDICT: 8/10[>
